At the time, Maryland National was the largest commercial bank in Maryland. Acquired by NationsBank in 1993 with the purchase of MNC Financial, its parent company. MNC had purchased American Security Bank in 1987. At the time, American Security was the largest commercial bank in Washington, D.C..
