Overview
Make Shift is a pioneering platform that seeks to drive progress through local enterprises. We believe that neighbourhoods thrive when they have successful local enterprises that reflect their diversity, character and spirit. All our projects focus on creating space to champion individuality, enabling their talent, ambition and businesses to progress and flourish. We reflect the individuality of the neighbourhoods, making sure that the space is as affordable as possible, offer as much support as we can, and we We specialise in meanwhile space redevelopment projects, transforming underused urban space, into amazing places that inspire community, creativity and enterprise. Our aim is to empower local people and independent businesses to grow stronger, together. All of our projects focus on providing the space and support that talented people need to bring their ideas and ambitions to life. We inspire and enable the people who use our spaces to invest in their community by providing their skills, time and energy to local causes. Our first project was Pop Brixton, an innovative shipping container village in the heart of Brixton, South London, that uses reclaimed materials to create a thriving community space that is now home to 55 independent businesses. Our second project, Peckham Levels, transformed seven levels of Peckham’s multi-storey car park into more than 90,000 square foot of creative workspace, artists’ studios, maker spaces, shared creative facilities, and community space for exhibitions, event and entertainment. Our third project, Clarnico Quay, will transform an under-utilised space in the heart of Hackney Wick into a new creative village, offering workspace, artists’ studios, light-industrail spaces, co-working and food, drink & entertainment spaces. There are a number of other Make Shift projects on the horizon, and we are always on the lookout for new opportunities to transform underused urban spaces into something truly exciting.
