Overview

The Make Listening Safe Campaign UK (MLSC UK) is the pilot for the World Health Organisation's (WHO) global Make Listening Safe initiative which will launch in the UK in 2023, with the objective of improving the hearing of those under 40 years of age by increasing their awareness of the avoidable risks to their hearing. If you would like to learn more about how you could get involved with the MLSC UK please get in touch. Following the publication of their "1.1 billion people at risk of hearing loss" ( https://news.un.org/en/story/2022/03/1113182 ) the WHO responded by catalysing three major initiatives. New Safety Standard In partnership with the International Telecommunications Union the WHO have developed a new safety standard, H.870 v2, which requires consumer headphone manufacturers to provide headphone users with easy to understand information about their exposure levels so that can manage it themselves. The standard has additional provisions for vulnerable people (children). The WHO have also produced a safety standard for live events and venues. Compliant Product Accreditation scheme To provide a marketing advantage, at point of sale, for those products which meet the H.870 v2 safety standard above. Make Listening Safe Campaign (MLSC) A global, pro bono, campaign to improve the hearing of 40 year olds, by increasing their awareness of the avoidable risks to hearing amongst those between the ages of 10 and 40 in an effort to change their listening habits and preserve their hearing. The Make Listening Safe Campaign UK is the pilot programme for the global campaign.
