LURIXS: Arte Contemporânea

Overview

The opening of LURIXS: Arte Contemporânea was preceded by a deep reflection on what role a gallery in the contemporary world should have. We believe the exclusive definition associated to buying and selling artworks no longer fully reflects the complexity of this activity, going far beyond the purely commercial matter. For us, an art gallery should be committed to the exchange of thoughts and ideas, understanding and supporting the broad development of the artists and their works, and enabling and nourishing dialogue with the audience. We believe in the quality of contemporary art, in Rio de Janeiro's potential, cultural tradition and avant-garde profile, and in the transformative capacity that art can have on society. Representing a multi-generational mix of artists, LURIXS' programme is focused on contemporary artists from the Brazil and beyond, working across different media, traditional and new. Artists represented include Hélio Oiticica, Lygia Clark, Geraldo de Barros, José Bechara, Raul Mourão, Elizabeth Jobim, Manuel Caeiro, Renata Tassinari, Valdirlei Dias Nunes, Paulo Climachauska, and Coletivo MUDA. LURIXS: Arte Contemporânea was founded in 2002 by the renowned art collector Ricardo Rego and has since then taken part in various local and international art fairs and exhibitions.
