Overview

It is in your roots that you find the strength to fight a storm determined to blow you away from all that you hold dear. We find our anchors in all that has shaped us. Our traditions, our heritage, our roots. This common belief and our shared love for the infinitely varied, vibrant and narrative Indian Art are the forces that brought us together. Indian Art; the more we try to say about it, the more we find our vocabulary failing us. The traditional Indian art is not only a firsthand narrative of the rich history of our land, it is also an allusion to our traditions and the pride that we carry in them. To acquaint ourselves better with the Indian art heritage, we decided to start our journey with textiles. This quest took us to Kutch. What we witnessed, rendered us with joy and broke our hearts at the same time. The intricate work, the interweaving of multiple fabrics, the explosion of colours, all of it came together making each piece exemplary. The struggles and pain of the artisans however called out to us. Many of these artisans are constantly fighting and coming up short in the fight against mass production and industrialization. So many have already traded their heritage for jobs that allow them to put food on their tables. We took this as our calling to do our bit in preserving and continuing the uniqueness of Indian haath-ki-kala. This kindled the idea of Luptkala.
