Overview
The Club known today as Lions Football Club was founded by a group of Dutch immigrants in 1957. For two decades teams from Hollandia (as the club was then known) took part in lower and first division competitions in Queensland soccer, playing from their home grounds at Richlands. In 1977, Hollandia were invited to join the National Soccer League as a foundation member and participated at this level until 1988 (as Hollandia and Brisbane Lions), winning the NSL Cup in 1982. Our club’s aim has always been to play football at the highest level possible – in 2012, Lions FC was accepted into the inaugural 2013 Brisbane Premier League, the top local competition in the Brisbane region. In 2016, Lions FC went back to back claiming the premiership with 3 games to spare and later won the Grand Final. This is the first time we have completed the double in over 12 years. We also have a team participating in the Under 18 division 1 competitions. Lions is also involved in administering a thriving Masters league (Over 35s and 45s), comprising 64 teams from all over Brisbane. Junior football is alive and well at Lions – in 2017 we have a total of 36 Aldi MiniRoos teams (aged 6-11) and 15 Divisional teams in Football Brisbane divisional competitions, as well as the 5 Junior teams taking part in the FC11 Super Youth League competitions giving us a total of 720 juniors.
