Overview

The Liberia Philanthropy Secretariat was established as a mechanism to increase philanthropy contributions in the country. Through generous support from the NoVo Foundation, Humanity United, the Daphne Foundation and the McCall MacBain Foundation, the Government of Liberia launched the Secretariat in April 2009. The Secretariat is a unit in the Office of the President, supervised by the Minister of State Without Portfolio. The Secretariat’s main objective is to improve the quality of foundations and philanthropists supported activities in Liberia through: a) Facilitating a more effective collaboration through information sharing, networking and outreach; b) Enhancing alignment between foundations' activities and Liberia’s Development Agenda; c) Developing programs and specific initiatives tailored for foundations; d) Monitoring and evaluation of foundation-supported activities in Liberia; e) Expanding the number of private philanthropy institutions and individual philanthropists supporting interventions in Liberia; and f) Accelerating efforts of foundations that are already working in the country.
