Through Olive Grove Adoptions, Libellula connects foodies seeking authentic, premium-quality ingredients with olive groves in the historic Sabina region near Rome, where families are no longer able to sustain the costs of cultivation. Libellula offers a modern solution to protecting the age-old practice of harvesting authentic Italian olive oil. The cultivation of this olive oil, which is arguably the most flavorful in all of Italy, has become economically unsustainable due to the impacts of climate change. Libellula supports family farmers through resilience-building agricultural practices and shared access to resources. A bottle of Libellula olive oil has a story that brings you closer to both nature and history. Roman Emperor Augustus’ agronomists chose the Sabina region to plant thousands of trees and build mills and amphorae factories to conserve, package and transport the oil, once known as the ‘Gold of Rome.’ Olives were picked according to criteria still followed today, including the reading of weather cues, lunar phases and plant cycles.
