Overview
The Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) is a national organization within the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water. LCEC addresses end-use energy conservation and renewable energy at the national level. It supports the Government of Lebanon to develop and implement national strategies that promote the development of efficient and rational uses of energy and the use of renewable energy at the consumer level. LCEC is a financially and administratively independent and operates under the direct supervision of the Minister. LCEC was created in 2002 as a project financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Ministry of Energy Water (MEW) under the management of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with a main mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Lebanon. LCEC gradually established itself as an independent technical national center although it continues to be supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
