LBJ Women's Campaign School

Overview

The purpose of the LBJ Women's Campaign School is to increase the number of women in elected office and campaign senior staff positions, regardless of political affiliation, through a structured curriculum, high-impact mentorship and alumnae support. The 2020 election was historic as record numbers of women, women of color and LGBTQ+ women ran and won races for elected office. However, progress has been incremental and women are still underrepresented at every level of elected office. The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately impacted women, especially women of color, differently abled women and LGBTQ+ women, which is why as we work to rebuild our communities, it is critical that women be represented in all levels of government. The heart of the experience combines two days of in-person training with seven months of live online course work. Topics include storytelling as a basis for a campaign, paid media, working with the press, campaign cyber security, fundraising, budgeting, data and field organizing. The LBJ Women's Campaign School utilizes the resources of a top 10 academic institution combined with the network of the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library to deliver a world-class curriculum for women leaders. This first-of-its-kind curriculum in Texas is bipartisan and issue neutral. We believe that when women of differing ideologies come together in the political arena, we can create lasting societal change. Our program provides a combination of self work, high-impact mentorship, and classroom and virtual learning. Research shows that those who participate in mentorship show an 88% productivity increase compared with 24% from training alone. That's why you will be individually matched with a mentor who will be with you at every step of this journey. We are building a network of women in politics that will last a lifetime. Through thoughtful in-person and digital networking activities we are creating a network that embodies the principle of #womenhelpingwomen.
