Overview

John Larson is a product of public housing, public education, and public service. He fights for Connecticut’s working families every day in Washington, DC, because that’s where he comes from and that’s how he’s lived his life. He’s lived his whole life in East Hartford and on many days you can still find him at Augie and Ray’s enjoying a hot dog. As Connecticut’s Senate President he authored the nation’s first Family and Medical Leave Act, because he knows working Americans need that support. He has helped to bring hundreds of millions of dollars to the First District so that schools, businesses and families survive the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic. Going forward, he will not only ensure that Americans get back on their feet, but that our country is better and stronger than ever in the wake. He is a champion of Social Security and holds the position as the Chair of the House Ways and Means Social Security subcommittee. His newest bill, Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust, cuts taxes for middle-class beneficiaries, extends program solvency, and expands benefits across the board, with nearly 200 House Democrats co-sponsoring on the very first day it was introduced! He is working to secure Americans’ retirement safety, make college more affordable, expand health care access, combat our climate crisis, and rebuild our nation’s infrastructure. He has the vision, leadership, and know-how that is necessary to rebuild our cities and towns, our state, and all of America.
