Overview

Laissez-Passer (LP) is a rights-based organisation with a mandate to navigate human in-country and cross-border mobility and access. LP primarily focuses on the global south, where communities are disproportionately affected by mobility and migration barriers. LP is registered in Estonia to leverage the advancements made by the country in the field of e-governance and digital identity. LP strives to highlight the links between international mobility and economic prospects. The regulations imposed on people perceived to be of a low economic value or security threat present an unfair rule of today’s economy and undermine economic justice. To tackle this, LP works to help people systematically disadvantaged by inequitable movement policies and processes to overcome these barriers and access the services and opportunities to which they have a right. LP launched its flagship project TravelPathway in 2018. TravelPathway is a citizen-identity portal that helps users navigate and report visa issuance obstacles. The objective is to promote consistent, accessible, and resource-appropriate migration governance. However, the project remains at prototype stage. An organization priority is to acquire the resources to further develop the project. To help address these issues, LP is currently a member of the International Detention Coalition, the Global Citizen Forum, and CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation. These networks of likeminded organizations and thought leaders provide a space for LP to maximize its impact through collective action.
