Overview

Traveling through Africa, specifically Malawi, KUMU.one founders Johanna and Klaus noticed the lack of higher education thousands and thousands of teenagers are facing: These highly talented, smart and curious kids are unable to go to college because it's just too expensive and therefore limited to a fraction of the population - to those that make much more than just a dollar day. With the average cost of 300 US dollars per year for accommodation, food and education at universities in Malawi and other countries in Africa, the vast majority of families and kids are unable to afford it as the average annual income in Malawi is between 100 and 200 US dollars per year. 300 US per year in developed countries, especially if split among a few people, is not much but can give kids a bright future - through education. Our goal is to enable kids to go to college, to receive a degree, to go back to their villages, teach others. We want them to help each other and it doesn't take much. Our vision is to promote empathy and education, with both you can end wars, end corruption and end inequality.
