Overview

Susan G. Komen Charlotte is THE local source for funding breast cancer detection, support and educational awareness in the Charlotte region. We fund non-duplicative, community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening, diagnostic, transportation, navigation and treatment support projects for the medically under-served population in Charlotte and surrounding areas. 75% of net funds raised stay in our local 13-county area, which includes Anson, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Richmond, Rowan, Stanly, Union and York counties. These funds support local community health programs, including education, screening and treatment support programs. The remaining 25% of net funds raised support breast cancer research. Some of that research is done here in North Carolina, at Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill. Funds are raised through individual donors, sponsors and signature events, including Race for the Cure and Laugh for the Cure. Since inception, Komen Charlotte has invested more than $17 million into our local community, and nearly $7 million to support research.
