Overview

Ruud-Jan Kokke The designs by Ruud-Jan Kokke stand out by his individual style and lines that combine a sharp eye for detail with functionality. With a high technical and visual quality, his designs breathe a sober and inventive atmosphere. Ruud-Jan Kokke is a furniture designer in the tradition of Gerrit Rietveld. He proves that a well thought-out construction, thorough knowledge of materials and basic geometrical starting points support a strong shape. Kokke started his own studio in 1986 and is constantly trying to find solutions that increase the comfort level of his furniture. Kokke also focuses on architectonic and interior projects, as well as public space designs and art. In this side of his work his central perspective is the individual and the perception of that individual. He regularly cooperates with other design disciplines in the realization of government buildings, companies, schools, parks and squares. Especially with Dutch artist Petra Hartman in shaping their school projects. He is a flexible partner with a thorough understanding of the complexity any kind of development raises. And he is always focused on delivering results. His work has been awarded with both Dutch and international awards. A number of his designs have become design classics and are included in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Publications of his work can be found in the Design Yearbook. He recently won the “Dutch Design Award 2008” for Reshaping and Fencing the square “Olympiaplein in Amsterdam” and the “Willem Diehl Award 2009” for the renovation/restoration project “Arnhem City hall”.
