As early as the 1850s, the Kinley family owned and operated numerous tanneries in New York. In operating these facilities, Kinley acquired timberlands located in northern Pennsylvania and WNY; these are still ongoing today. When oil was discovered in the late 1860s, Kinley decided to enter into the business of forming Kinley Oil & Gas Corporation in 1909. Today, Kinley has moved its operations from the northeast regions to Texas and Oklahoma. Knapps Creek, New York, is the location of Kinley's original horse barn that housed workhorses used in the oil fields. Knapps Creek was also the home of Kinley Oil & Gas Corp.'s leading oil field shop. Kinley Oil & Gas Corp. drilled hundreds of wells in the Pennsylvania and New York oil fields and transported oil to the refinery by pipeline.
