Overview

Karavaan is the annual socio-cultural and science fest of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune. With its humble origins as a small intra-college fest in 2008, it has grown by leaps and bounds to become a major presence in Pune. Karavaan is entirely student-organized, with the active involvement of all major clubs of the institute. Our vision is to create a fun, exciting and memorable experience for everyone involved, as they take a break from their regular schedules, and give back to the society with good deeds. Last year, we recorded a footfall of 4000+ people. Karavaan is held over a span of three to four days in the Fall semester, which host myriad activities involving music, dance, photography, science, quizzing, drama, literature and stand-up comedy by students. Eminent personalities from across the country (acclaimed writer, Manu S Pillai; LGBTQ rights activist, Bindumadhav Khire; former director of SERB, Dr. Rajiv Sharma etc) are invited to deliver a number of talks on various subjects of importance to the society. Spectators are also treated to stupendous shows by acclaimed artists (Indian Ocean, The Local Train, Lagori, Agam, Sorabh Pant, Karunesh Talwar, Anirban Dasgupta, Emiway Bantai, Anand Bhaskar Collective etc) at Pronite. Along with these, there are a number of welfare events (including regular blood donation drives, a successful Pride Parade etc) that make Karavaan a fest with a difference.
