Kaira Looro International is a non profit architecture competition open to students and young architects aimed to develop humanitarian architectural projects in developing countries and to launch new architecture young talents. The aim of the competition is also to launch young architect talents in the professional world, throughout prestigious cash prizes, publications, construction and internships in international firms including Kengo Kuma & Associates in Tokyo. Kengo Kuma is the president of the jury. The competition is followed by global media partners in all continents allowing the winners to gain visibility on the international scene. The initiative was also established with the objectives of raising awareness in the international scientific community regarding the topics of humanitarian architecture, and at the same time raising funds for humanitarian projects to which the entire proceeds are donated. The words “kaira looro” are in the language of the Mandinka people, an African culture which comprises the majority of the population in the area where projects are developed. The words mean “architecture for peace”. The event is organised by non-profit organisation Balouo Salo which operates in Africa and focuses on charitable projects which provide support to disadvantaged communities. website. www.kairalooro.com
