Jerusalem Institute of Justice

Overview

JIJ is a legal and research institute, promoting human and civil rights, and freedom of religion. We utilize legal and advocacy tools in the courts, the Knesset, governments, academia and mainstream media forums in Israel and across the globe, advocating for Israel and safeguarding human rights in the Middle East. The Institute is non-partisan and is guided by the liberal principles of freedom of religion, freedom of conscience and a strong opposition to discrimination based upon race, gender, religion, sexuality, disabilities, and political opinions. JIJ’s legal aid department provides completely free legal representation, protecting the civil rights and religious freedom for minorities under the Israeli law. These rights are guaranteed to all the citizens of Israel; unfortunately, some minorities suffer discrimination and need our legal expertise and assistance. Our team has successfully handled over 1000 cases dealing with issues such as family unification, affirmative action, immigration and tax exemptions. We have won 24 precedent setting Supreme Court petitions. Our International Law and Public Diplomacy Department strives to uphold human rights in the Middle East and safeguard the legitimate standing of the State of Israel among the Nations. Through research, drafting and presenting complaints, evidence and testimonies to the International Criminal Court and Governmental bodies, we target perpetrators of human rights violations that have so far enjoyed impunity. We view prostitution as a form modern-day-slavery and detrimental to our nation. For more than more than 10 years, JIJ’s initiatives through Project NOA (Not Objects Anymore) have led the fight to eradicate prostitution in Israel. We have done this through educating the masses, policy development, national social media campaigns and community collaborations to raise awareness and attempt to change the public perception.
