Overview

Founded in 1977 by a renowned primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall, the Jane Goodall Institute is a global community conservation organization that advances the vision and work of Dr. Jane Goodall. By protecting chimpanzees and inspiring action to conserve the natural world we all share, we improve the lives of people, animals and the environment. JGI inspires hope through the collective action of community-led conservation, the innovative use of science and technology and roots & shoots program. JGI has been active in Uganda since year 1991, with a primary interest of ensuring long-term conservation of the endangered chimpanzees and their forest habitats through empowering and enhancing national and local institutions (government agencies, local government and local communities) to be effective custodians of the endangered apes. We also collaborate with NGOs, researchers, private sector and government agencies through partnership, so as to monitor the health status of the great ape populations. Our Mission To conserve chimpanzees and their habitats. Our Vision Stable, viable, and diverse chimpanzee population in all different major forest blocks in Uganda, living in peaceful co-existence with human communities.
