Overview

The International Water Mist Association (IWMA) was founded on 15th April 1998. IWMA is the only organization exclusively dedicated to water mist firefighting and related technologies and supports the continued development, research and applications engineering of generic water mist systems. The IWMA head office is in Hamburg, Germany. Members of IWMA are amongst others manufacturers, distributors, insurance companies and scientific institutes from countries like, the United States, Egypt, Australia, France, Denmark, the UK and Italy. The organization holds an annual two-day conference. During this event the IWMA members, researchers, AHJs, suppliers, end customers etc. gather to exchange knowledge on the latest development. With their educational seminars IWMA transport basic knowledge to certain regions or deal with a certain subject like tunnels, data centres or heritage buildings. Members of the three IWMA committees (the Board of Directors, the Scientific Council and the Marketing Group) act as representatives for the organization in a number of expert and working groups as well as technical committees such as the CEN TC 191 / WG 10, NFPA 750, IMO (International Maritime Organization) and EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency of the European Commission).
