IonMedicine has used as its primary work instrument metabolomics –a technology that allows for the identification and quantification of metabolites produced by the biological systems– and, through the analysis of post genomics, can express individual’s biochemical phenotype, which is groundbreaking in the way that the approach for health grievances is done. The study of genomics (genes), transcriptomics (mRNA), proteomics (proteins) and metabolomics composes a new technology known as OMICS. Metabolomics differs from the others for it globally evaluates a system’s metabolites (cell, tissue or organism). In this way, it may not only be used for the comprehension of normal physiology, but especially in the better understanding of the metabolic alterations involved in the etiology of illnesses, which allows for metabolomics to become a fundamental tool in medical diagnosis and prognosis.
