Overview

The IOF is the global governing body for the sport of orienteering. The IOF has member federations in 70 countries and is continuously working to bring the sport to further countries and territories. Orienteering is practised in 4 disciplines; Foot Orienteering involves navigating between control points in the fastest time possible using a detailed topographical map. Navigation can also be done on cross-country skis (Ski Orienteering) or mountainbike (MTB Orienteering). Trail Orienteering is a paralympic variation requiring precise map reading skills. The IOF sanctions and holds major events in each discipline every year, including World Championships, Junior World Championships, Regional Championships i Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania and South America, and World Cup competitions.
