Overview
The Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) at the University of Valencia is a research centre in Molecular Chemistry and Nanoscience, recognized as Excellence Unit María de Maeztu by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness in 2016. Since its foundation in 2000, it promotes the study of molecular materials with different functionalities from an interdisciplinary perspective. ICMol's research programmes are highly competitive and its scientific leadership in its field of work is internationally recognized. ICMol participates in numerous national and international research projects, including several prestigious European Research Council (ERC) projects. ICMol's research is focused on obtaining and studying a great diversity of molecules, materials and complex systems. The study of their characteristics at the molecular level allows the understanding of some fundamental properties of matter and enables their use in a large number of applications. The main lines of research of ICMol are: New Advanced Materials: Materials based on porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), two-dimensional materials similar to graphene with diverse functionalities and Biomaterials. Nanomagnetism and Molecular Spintronics: Molecular magnets (of nanometric size) for use as bits or as qubits (quantum bits). Molecular Electronics: Functional molecules and molecular materials for their integration into optoelectronic devices. Supramolecular Chemistry: New drugs with antitumor, anti-inflammatory and antiparasitic activity, tumor markers and chemical sensors for metal ions and compounds of biological interest.
