Overview

IPoP – Institute for Spatial Policies is an independent non-profit consulting, research and advocacy organisation in the field of sustainable spatial and urban development. We are addressing the challenges of sustainable urban development through five main topics: participation as cross-cutting topic, urban policies, placemaking, walking and parking policy. We serve as National URBACT Point, making a connection between towns and cities in Slovenia and URBACT, an EU-wide programme helping cities to provide integrated solutions to urban problems through networking and knowledge sharing. We coordinate Mreža za prostor, connecting NGOs in the field of urban and spatial development in Slovenia, since 2009. In 2011 we joined a global movement of free, citizen-led walking conversations called Jane‘s Walk, originating in Toronto and inspired by Jane Jacobs. 176 walks were held in 39 cities and towns around Slovenia, 27 of them led by IPoP. Since 2015 we are leading a national programme promoting active travel to school, helping to introduce ‘walking buses’ and ‘bike trains’ in schools around Slovenia.
