Overview

Since 2006, the Institute for Muslim Mental Health (IMMH) has been mobilizing mental health professionals interested in caring for Muslims to exchange resources, disseminate original research on Muslim mental health, trained professionals and community leaders, mentored students and young professionals, and connected American Muslims to mental health services. Examples of IMMH achievements: - In partnership with Michigan State University (MSU) we host an annual conference for academics and community members. - In partnership with MSU and University of Michigan University Press has produced an academic, peer reviewed publication called the Journal of Muslim Mental Health - Trained hundreds of Imams and community leaders in mental health first aid - Hosted the 1st and most extensive online Muslim mental health directory for people seeking clinical services - In partnership with academics and clinicians, we host a Works In Progress to mentor and guide graduate students and young scholars with their research and grant proposals In 2017 we launched a professional membership to further coordinate mental health professionals interested in caring for Muslims. Members will have access to slide sets to provide lectures to community and professional audiences on various mental health topics. Members will contribute and have access to a blog and newsletter articles to exchange information about innovative services, clinical pearls, how to address controversial issues, and ways to better address the emotional needs of the Muslim community. Members will be provided a biannual summary of the newest research on Muslim mental health. Members will have access to a community of professionals and scholars with shared interests and aspirations.
