Mental Health Care

Overview

Established in 1979, Institute for Exceptional Children is a non-profit organisation striving to promote subjective well-being, prevent mental disorders and intervene with mental health care interventions among children, adolescents, adults and their families in Mumbai city and suburbs. In the past, we have implemented programs in partnerships with UNICEF, MCGM, ICICI Bank, The Live Love Laugh Foundation, Rangoonwala Foundation (India) Trust, Projects of CRY and Action Aid and Project Mumbai to name a few. Vision: To create an inclusive society where people with diverse mental health and psycho-social concerns, and their caregivers, across all ages, genders, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds can thrive meaningfully with dignity and social acceptance. Mission: To enhance psycho-social wellbeing and mental health of all children, adolescents and families across all genders, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds through mental health promotion, prevention and intervention, capacity building and collaboration. We offer 3 programmes: 1. Educational Institutions Mental Health (EMH) Programme to build a positive school climate such that students can learn to live a well-adjusted and positive life through teacher trainings, parenting workshops and student centric programs. 2. Community Mental Health (CMH) Programme to promote awareness about mental wellbeing and prevent mental concerns among high risk and marginalized sections of society 3. Child, Adolescent and Family Counselling (CAC) Programme to assist children, adolescents and families experiencing mental health difficulties by diagnosing and treating their mental health concerns with evidence-based practices. We have reached out to over 20,000 people in FY 19-20 under each of these programmes.
