INDUS ARTS COUNCIL

Overview

Indus Arts Council is a non profit organization, founded in 2012. Since then it has become the leading Arts and Cultural Organization of Pakistani heritage in the Houston area. Our mission is to promote awareness of Pakistani arts and culture in the U.S. through Urdu language classes, cultural events, films, and theatre. We envision diversity through cultural exchange amongst the global communities. Our leading program is: Urdu language Classes for children K-12 grades and adults These classes are taught by heritage speakers who are fluent in Urdu and trained in the ACTFL standards of teaching foreign languages. Weekend Urdu Classes are offered during Spring and Fall. Urdu Summer Camp is offered as a 3 week long immersive experience with a theatrical performance marking the end. This has been the most effective way to practice and express the language learned during the camp. Click on our website to learn more. Other programs include: • Annual Events with an immersive cultural experience featuring art, food, performances and activities for children and youth. This engages entire families from diverse backgrounds who volunteer and attend our enriching events. • Independent Films on topics that are related to an immigrant diaspora of South Asian heritage.
