Overview

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique is an effortless and simple mental technique, during which one experiences a deeply relaxing state of rest, measured to be twice as deep as the deepest point of sleep. Along with this deep rest, the mind becomes calm and alert. Scientists refer to it as "restful alertness". Within a few days, this calm, fresh state of mind and body, begins to spill over into one's daily activity. This improves focus, eliminates tiredness, increases inner peace, and strikes a better work-life balance. TM is quite different from what is usually associated with the word "meditation". TM does not involve any concentration; no effort, no force, no control. Anyone, regardless of their background, can easily learn. TM is so simple, that we teach children 10 years old. TM has nothing to do with religion, belief, lifestyle, or diet. Over 600 scientific research studies have been conducted on Maharishi's TM technique at institutes like Harvard, UCLA and Stanford. The results include: increased alertness and creativity, improved problem solving ability, decreased anxiety and depression, increased self confidence, decreased high blood pressure; improved memory and concentration, decreased headaches, improved sleep, improved academic performance adn IQ level and increased inner well being. A five year research study done in the U.S., found that people practising TM have 87% less heart disease, and go to the doctor 74% fewer times, than those who don't practise TM. The TM course takes about 2 hours a day for five days.
