Overview

The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) was established to meet the quantitative and qualitative gap and supply of skilled manpower for the Petroleum, Hydrocarbons and Energy Sectors and to boost the research activities needed for the growth of these sectors. Learn, Experience, and Implement is what IIPE strives for and inculcates the same in the students. IIPE is an Institute of National Importance(INI) at par with Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Management(IIMs) and was enacted by Parliament vide the Indian Institute of Petroleum & Energy Act, 2017 (No: 3 of 2018). It started its operations in Visakhapatnam with the mentorship of IIT Kharagpur in 2016. IIPE is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Govt. of India and is backed by Oil and Gas companies HPCL, IOCL, ONGC, GAIL, OIL India, Shell Group India and Cairn India Limited with their CEOs as Ex-officio General Council Members. IIPE aims to be one of the top-ranked institutes at the National and International levels in the Petroleum and Energy sector, with research as the core activity. The students will be selected only based on the JEE Advanced ranks. IIPE has tied up with the IIT Council for the selection of candidates for every academic session that began on August 01, 2016. Consequently, for the coming academic year 2020-21, IIPE has been tied up with IIT Delhi for the selection of candidates. Within a span of short time, IIPE entered into academic MoUs with Texas A & M University, USA, and the University of Houston, the USA for research collaboration, faculty exchange, and student internships.
