In 1998 Codelco Chile decided to create IM2 considering: the need of an organization with a unique identity, autonomy and capacity to conduct research and innovation in mining and metallurgy in order to: • Develop technologies in areas where the market offers no complete solution; • Contribute to improving their technologies with due continuity; • Develop technologies to increase its mineral reserves; • Develop technologies to minimize environmental impacts; • Improve the effectiveness of technology transfer that are proper. Mission: IM2 is an organization dedicated to conduct research and technological innovation to face the competitive challenges defined by Codelco. Vision: Being strategic ally of Codelco, for the development of technological solutions in mining and metallurgy, based on the creation, capture, management, application and knowledge protection. Being watched by Codelco as an excellence and world-class Institute, in the development of technological solutions, with multidisciplinary teams of professionals, leaders and referents in their disciplines, and in the performance of its mission, to enhance the interaction between industry and academy .
