Overview

Il-Majjistral Park is a Nature and History Park located in the Northwest region of Malta. The word ‘Majjistral’ means northwest in Maltese and the Park is named after the region it is found in as well as the predominant wind on the Maltese Islands. The Park’s area covers approximately 2.5 squared kilometres. Six kilometres of the coastline is designated as per the European Habitats Directive as part of a network of sites called Natura 2000. The Park was declared a National Park by the Government of Malta and designated under the Legal Notice 251 of 2007 in September 2007. It is managed by the Heritage Parks Federation which consists of three NGOs - The GAIA Foundation, Din l-Art Ħelwa and Nature Trust. As well as providing vital habitat for various flora and fauna the Park is also rich in terms of landscape value. The influences on the landscape are mainly a result of the geological formations exposed within the Park and the resulting geomorphological processes.
