We are a scientific research team called iGEM Bonn-Rheinbach 2022, where we compete in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Foundation. Last year's (2020/2021) project was called Biolan Synthetics. BioLan was a genetic engineering project to replace current processes in the rare-earth element (i.e. lanthanide) metallurgy industry and allow new technologies to be used in waste processing, all packaged in a sustainable method to reduce environmental impact. This project was rewarded a silver metal. Our current project is on bio-aviation fuel. Our plan is to biosynthesize straight alkane compounds and then form them into branched alkanes. This compound could then potentially be used in aviation fuels.
