Overview

IBECC is the oldest and most distinguished business ethics case competition of its kind. Founded in 1996 at Loyola Marymount University, IBECC has been an independent 501c3 headquartered in Massachusetts since 2019. We aim to help all participants--student competitors and executive judges--become better informed about the necessity, difficulty, costs, and rewards of conducting business ethically. Recognizing the special challenges connected with addressing ethical issues on a multicultural planet, IBECC encourages a secular and philosophical approach to these matters. While we respect the variety of traditions historically connected with ethics, we believe that a philosophical approach offers the greatest hope for agreement across opposing traditions and cultures. IBECC has a series of unique features. * It provides corporate partners with access to an exceptionally talented group of potential employees or interns. * Student teams regularly identify issues that are “just over the horizon”–problems that don’t catch the attention of most corporations or the business press for months. * Every business acknowledges their future depends on the 20-40 age group. This key demographic is where their most recent employees come from and represents the largest customer segment. IBECC asks teams to pay special attention in their analyses to challenges and opportunities related to this demographic. How is the team’s “problem” seen when viewed from a Millennial/Gen Z perspective as opposed to a traditional business perspective? How does their “solution” leverage this demographic’s distinctive concerns and abilities so that it ensures the company’s long-term success and the interests of all stakeholders? We are actively seeking to expand our roster of academic and corporate partners.
