Overview

We’re on a mission to help individuals and families in our communities thrive with sustainable housing. We were founded in 1989 when executives from the multifamily housing industry joined forces to create HIF and leverage their resources, relationships, and expertise. We fulfill our mission via three programs: Emergency Housing Fund (EHF) Timely and thoroughly vetted emergency grants up to $2,500 to individuals and families so they can remain housing secure and cover an unexpected expense. These grants as an essential lifeline during a financial setback and bridge the gap between crisis and stability—the difference between keeping someone housed and having them experience homeless for the first time in their life Affordable Housing Initiative (AHI) Matches qualified individuals and families already living in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties with apartments at up to 50% below market rates for up to three years. Through our extensive network of over 50 participating landlords and property management companies, we find apartments for people working and contributing to our communities as teachers, school support staff, non-profit employees, public servants, healthcare providers, and others who are in the 50-80% AMI range. Renovation Program Renovates shelters, transitional housing, and community centers at no cost to the organization by leveraging the skills, talents and in-kind donations from construction companies and vendors. We believe all housing solutions, including shelters and transitional housing, should provide spaces that allow people a respite from the challenges of homelessness and an opportunity to recover in a safe, comfortable and dignified space.
