The Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance Service (HALAS) has been in continuous operation since 1939. Utilizing a staff of approximately 50 casual and full-time EMT's, paramedics, transport attendants, and administrative personnel, we provide basic and advanced emergency medical services (911), inter-facility and inter-hospital ambulance transfers, and non-emergency ambulatory, wheelchair, and litter transportation. Our primary emergency response area includes the boroughs of Hollidaysburg, Martinsburg, Williamsburg, and the townships of Frankstown, Blair, Catherine, Huston, Woodbury, and North Woodbury. In addition to this, we provide ALS (paramedic) assistance to ambulance services in Huntingdon and Bedford counties, as well as mutual aid to other EMS services within Blair county. We also provide non-emergency transportation utilizing a transportation vans and attendants in all of our primary emergency coverage area and beyond. In addition to this, we provide community first aid and CPR instruction, as well as host various healthcare provider continuing education through our partners at Allegheny Health Network. We also provide stand-by coverage at community and sporting events. We work closely with our fire department and law enforcement counterparts to provide comprehensive emergency response for all of the residents and visitors to our communities.
