HOCHTIEF-MURPHY Joint Venture (HMJV)

Construction

Overview

HOCHTIEF-MURPHY Joint Venture (HMJV) is one of the longest established Joint Ventures within the UK infrastructure market, having originally been formed in the late 1990s. We have successfully delivered complex projects such as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link Contract 320 and the Crossrail Contract 310 with a track record of completion on time and within budget. These achievements have only been possible through our ethos and culture of “One Team, One Spirit”, which is embraced by our Team including our supply chain partners as well, who are integrated into our working family. This approach is currently embodied in our works on National Grid’s second phase of the London Power Tunnels (LPT). Current Project: National Grid - London Power Tunnels (Phase 2) We are currently delivering Package 2 (Tunnels and Shafts) and Package 5 (M&E and Headhouses) of the LPT Scheme in South London. This prestigious scheme is vital to keep Londoners connected to safe and reliable electricity supplies and meet the energy demands for the future by rewiring the Capital via deep underground tunnels. In total, 32.5km of 3m diameter tunnels and eight shafts, up to approximately to 60m, are being constructed below South London between Wimbledon and Crayford. These will eventually carry high voltage electricity cables. The second phase of London Power Tunnels follows on from National Grid’s first phase which was a seven-year £1 billion scheme completing in 2018 to build 32km of tunnels and two new substations north of the Thames. Works on Phase 2 began on site in spring 2020 and expected to conclude in 2027. The two phases of London Power Tunnels phases will join at Wimbledon. National Grid are an early adopter of the “Project 13” philosophy on the second phase of London Power Tunnels, where the different delivery packages work together as a collaborative enterprise to achieve best for project outcomes.
