Overview

The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has been a successful advocate of human rights for over 25 years. Founded in 1989 by the members of the Helsinki Committee in Poland, currently HFHR is one of the most experienced and professionally active non-governmental organizations in the field of human rights in Europe. It was established to promote human rights and the rule of law, as well as to contribute to the development of the open society in Poland. The mission of HFHR is to promote the development of a culture based on the respect of freedom and human rights in Poland and abroad. Since 2007 HFHR has a consultative status within the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights is a member of Human Rights House Foundation created by non-governmental organizations from Norway, the United Kingdom, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kenya and Uganda, among other countries. It is also a member of a Civic Solidarity Platform. HFHR’s main areas of activity include: • observation of and reporting on the developments in the field of human rights in Poland and abroad, • engaging in strategic litigation in public interest, • advocating for positive changes in national and international laws, • educational activities, • "WATCH DOCS. Human Rights in Film International Film Festival" organizing.
