Health Outreach Program - HMP3 at UCSD

Civic and Social Organizations

Overview

The Health Outreach Program (HOP) is a student organization that aims to counsel the underrepresented minority, first-generation, and/or financially disadvantaged high school students on their paths towards careers in healthcare. The Health Outreach Program is a branch of UC San Diego's Health and Medical Professions Preparation Program (HMP3) focusing on the high school population. We aim to provide them with informational and interactive pre-health resources, which includes educating them about different careers in healthcare and equipping them with necessary skills (ie. public speaking, time-management, etc.) that will help them achieve their goals. HOP's undergraduate team develops monthly educational workshops with presentations, speakers, and skills-building labs (on resumes, mental health, study strategies, etc.) to teach underserved high school students about a broad range of careers in the healthcare field. HOP also compiles and shares resources and opportunities such as volunteering activities, research programs, and other career or college-related opportunities. HOP aims to encourage and inspire underserved high school students to enter careers in the health care field.
