Overview

Plastic Does Not Belong in the Ocean! The mission is to create awareness on the impact of plastic waste at gastronomy businesses, starting with university restaurants and cafeterias, by introducing biodegradable and edible cutlery and tableware as a substitute for single-use plasticware across the Netherlands. The vision is to reduce single use plastic waste by inspiring and supporting gastronomy businesses in The Netherlands to be more environmentally friendly and contribute to anti-plastic laws and regulations. Green Spoon wants to put an end to the increasing pollution of the seas and oceans with plastics. We want to prevent even more plastics entering the sea in the future. Therefore, we aim to constantly draw attention to plastic soup firstly through an innovative product: Edible Cutlery and Tableware and secondly through Campaigns and Lobbying against single-use plastic waste. We believe that measures which prevent plastic entering the environment, water and eventually ending up in the sea have the greatest impact. This includes reducing the amount of single-use consumer plastics, the investment in research and development into sustainable alternatives and the advocacy of anti-plastic laws in the Netherlands. Green Spoon is an advocate for alternative solutions and we are convinced that using single-use plastic has become very unnecessary in this modern, innovative and technological generation. There have been multiple advances into the development of natural and completely ‘backyard’ biodegradable cutlery and tableware in the past decade, and we are astonished that the Netherlands is not yet using these innovations to its advantage. Green Spoon wants to introduce the Netherlands with entirely biodegradable and edible cutlery and tableware as a substitute for current plastic solutions. The great advantage of edible cutlery? They are guilt-free AND cost the same.
