Overview
Girls on the Run is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. We envision a world where every girl is free to activate her limitless potential and boldly pursue her dreams. We provide afterschool programs each fall, spring and summer. Our evidence based curricula support the social, emotional, mental and physical health of girls in 3rd through 8th grade - a critical stage in their development. GOTR provides evidence-based, positive youth development programs in schools and community based sites. Lessons are facilitated by trained volunteer coaches and focus on social emotional learning (SEL). Girls learn and practice the skills they need to build positive relationships, succeed in school, connect with the community and navigate their lives with confidence. We transform girls' lives by helping them set high, yet realistic goals, providing a safe, brave and supportive space, where they can share their thoughts and feelings, and engaging them in dynamic discussions on age appropriate topics. Running games and physical activity are creatively integrated and help girls establish healthy habits for a lifetime. The program is offered at schools and community sites throughout Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, Lebanon, Adams and Franklin Counties. Each 10-week session held every spring and fall, culminates with a 5K running event which brings together all participating families across the region in a fun celebration of our girls and all they have accomplished. Camp GOTR is a weeklong summer camp- with both half and full day options, including lunch and daily, career-focused field trips.
