Overview

GlobalXplorerº was established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2016 by Dr. Sarah Parcak — Egyptologist, National Geographic Explorer, 2016 TED Prize winner and Space Archaeologist — to empower a diverse, global community to help archaeologists curtail the cultural heritage destruction happening on a global scale. The world has millions of archaeological sites still waiting to be discovered, many threatened with destruction by conflict, looting, encroachment, and environmental change. GlobalXplorerº exists to map and document these remaining sites over the next 10 years with a crowd-sourced expedition of virtual explorers, community hubs of citizen archaeologists to assist with local fieldwork, and a global platform that makes cultural heritage data accessible to all. At GlobalXplorerº, we are on a mission to urgently find & protect the world’s hidden heritage. In the end, we envision a world where our cultural heritage data is shared openly, widely, and with great relevance to all, informing global decision-making.
