Overview

We believe that academic economics in general, and economics curricula in particular have become too narrow and unfairly exclude a large number of fruitful alternative approaches. At the same time, the orthodoxy is accepted and taught uncritically, to the detriment of students. GURWES therefore aims to provide a platform for students and other interested individuals to explore and discuss alternative approaches to economics. We do this through hosting guest lectures, having workshops and reading groups, and providing tutorial sessions for students alongside other means. We also continue to campaign for a reform of economics curricula, both at the local level and as part of the national and international movements for pluralism. Through collaboration with other organizations GURWES has also joined the public discourse and hosted events on the importance of democratizing economics. All students, academics, and members of the public interested in the field are encouraged to join.
