The Geoscience Energy Society of Great Britain (GESGB) YP group was set up in 2010 to support and develop Young Professionals working in the energy industry in the UK. We aim to support young professionals and to develop a strong network within the larger petroleum geosciences community. In order to ensure we meet our objectives we organise events, such as networking evenings, as well as lectures, seminars and training courses. The networking evenings are a great opportunity to make new friends, and the courses we co-ordinate offer ways to increase knowledge of the wider industry. We also offer a mentoring programme which matches young professionals with highly experienced individuals from across the industry. Each mentor-mentee relationship is tailored to individual needs and has already received glowing feedback. Finally we provide sponsorship to undergraduate mapping projects at 22 top UK universities, to introduce geologists and geophysicists to the opportunities offered by working in the oil and gas industry.
