Overview

Geoconferences (WA) Inc. is a non-profit association established in 1987. Comprising of committed volunteers, we aim to promote the work of the Western Australian geoscientific community. Our vision is to facilitate the exposure of the Western Australian geoscientific community and general public to innovative ideas, knowledge and technology that have the potential to influence our understanding of geology and its successful mineral exploration. Our objectives: 1) To develop the careers of young geoscientists and promote the study and understanding of Western Australian geology, by providing travel grants. Western Australian geology students studying at university as a graduate or postgraduate, or actively engaged in Precambrian research as a postdoctoral fellow can apply for travel grants to attend local, interstate and international conferences and field excursions that will promote an understanding of Western Australian geology. Other Australia and international students and researchers can apply for grants to help them present their research at geological conferences held in Western Australia. 2) To organise and host the International Archaean Symposium, dedicated to Precambrian geoscience and specifically the Archaean. The event is held in Perth to showcase Western Australian Precambrian geology. Key features of the symposia series are its focus on the Archaean Earth, the ten-year cycle of symposia. The 6th International Archaean Symposium will be held in Perth in 2020. 3) To consider requests for sponsorship of events and activities that meet our objectives of promoting the understanding and teaching of geology in Western Australia, particularly the Precambrian and its mineral deposits.
