Overview

G-SIG Timor-Leste, is a youth-lead non-profit organization focused on promoting the well-being of both people and the environment through sustainable advocacy, research, and the publication of geoscience activities and other community-based initiatives related to the development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The organization was established by geoscience and geographic information systems experts with the aim of enhancing and disseminating information to the general public, young academics, NGOs, and government agencies regarding geoscience activities, such as environmental risks, climate change, natural disasters, and natural resources. G-SIG Timor-Leste actively promotes the utilization of geospatial data through the application of geographic information systems in Timor-Leste. This is achieved through research endeavors, presentations, dissemination efforts, and training programs. To ensure legal recognition, G-SIG Timor-Leste has completed the registration process with the Ministry of Justice, with Notary Management, and has been issued registration number 06/08 as of February 2023. Our vision: To improve knowledge in geosciences and Geographic Information Systems, making it more scientific, professional, and competitive. Our mission: a). Empower and enhance the knowledge of the community to advance geoscience through socialization, presentations, and professional training or courses; b). Provide assistance and certification to improve the quality of education and strengthen the knowledge of students in the fields of geology, geography, and relevant areas in geographic information systems; c). Act as a development agent through research, analysis, and transformation based on the needs of society and all individuals through scientific research.
