Overview

Feminist-informed Future Black Female (FBF) is a non-profit organisation that works to empower Black girls and women between the ages of 16 and 22 to take charge of their education and career paths as well as their social, political, and civic engagement. We accomplish this by offering access to strong networks, skills development and advancement, and rights-based advocacy. FBF has successfully initiated and implemented numerous initiatives in collaboration with community partners and organisations since 2019. Our portfolio includes a global essay contest, which garnered entries from 35 countries around the globe. We also run a COVID response program that supports students to stay in school even as they struggle with online learning, social isolation and precarious schooling. Future Black Female has a remote social media internship, which has recruited from Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago and other countries. We are proud of our partnerships with higher education institutions like Ontario Tech University. Together we hosted a STEM Capital conference, focusing on recruitment and retention of women of color into STEM programs and the establishment of successful careers after graduation. Our Pro-Black Mental Health Services with a particular focus on gender-based violence are part of our three strand approach to wellbeing. The other strands are Financial Wellbeing and Career and Educational Wellbeing. Visit our website to find out how you can access our services, volunteer or partner with Future Black Female.
