The Friends organization oversees the cultural and safety improvements including but not limited to native landscaping, lighting, mile markers, bike racks, benches, trail heads, and public art. The Friends of Santa Fe Trail’s mission is to bring value to the community by bringing neighbors together, encouraging healthy lifestyles, improving the quality of life, increasing usable green space, and providing alternative commuting options through quality sustainable development that reflects the unique qualities of East Dallas. The Santa Fe Trail begins at White Rock Lake and winds through East Dallas neighborhoods and connects to historic Deep Ellum and Fair Park by way of a 12 foot wide, 4.5 mile long paved trail over the former Santa Fe Railroad line.
