Overview

Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park is the first memorial dedicated to President Roosevelt in his home state of New York, and the most significant presidential memorial located outside of Washington D.C. Modernist American architect Louis Kahn designed the four-acre Park, which sits on the southern tip of Roosevelt Island, in the 1970s. Opening in October 2012, Four Freedoms Park has welcomed nearly 750,000 visitors from around the world. A unique memorial, Four Freedoms Park does not monumentalize a war or a national tragedy but rather honors one of our nation’s great leaders and his compelling vision for a safer and more just world, founded upon four freedoms: freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.
