Overview

Founded in 2000, Hong Kong Federation of Designers Limited was renamed The Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations Limited in 2004. During the early years, The Federation has acted as a platform for the discussion of design, education, cultural policy and infrastructure development, providing room for expression of ideas and opinions from the industry to the government. Since 2011, FHKDA has taken on a more significant role in coordinating projects that foster collaborations of professionals in different sectors of design with other industries and partners in the economy. To compliment the work of HKTDC, HKDC and those by different local institutions, FHKDA focused its effort in facilitating inter-city exchange programmes and communication, as well as fostering collaborations between designers/brands from around the region. FHKDA aims to consolidate the industry efforts in Hong Kong by building stronger relationships with key local professional bodies and design institutions, as well as those in around the region so as to ride on the national development strategy involving "One Belt One Road Initiative" and "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area", and strive to further strengthen the "Design Twin Cities" development for Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The signing of Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement with Authority of Qianhai Shenzhen-HongKong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone of Shenzhen in August 2017, and the signing of Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement with Chengdu Management Committee of Tianfu New Area, Sichuan in May 2018 for setting up the two Innovation Hubs in Zetta Bridge, Shenzhen and Zetta Bridge, Chengdu, marked new milestones for FHKDA, in recognizing its efforts in connecting Hong Kong with the Mainland, as well as new potentials for the Hong Kong creative industries to expand their footprints in the region.
